What you can do on a boat trip to make it more fun!

  • View the Scenery

Another everyday boat activity, you wouldn’t be able to get an excellent view of sunrises and sunsets. Boating into the sunsets is a very peaceful experience. While boating towards the sunset to take in the scenery, always be aware of your distance from land. Remember, you will return to your dock or marina at dusk or in the dark once the sun ​finally ​sets.

  • Listen to Music or Watch a Movie

There is nothing better than sitting in your boat relaxing and listening to some good music. Music enhances the mood and makes for a lovely day cruising on your boat. For example, some boat owners will play all kinds of music when anchored at a beach off a sandbar. Just be mindful of the volume of the music you are playing on your boat, and be cautious of the people living near the body of water or fellow boaters anchored next to you they may not like the songs you are playing. Taking a laptop and watching a movie is also a great way to enjoy your boating trip. You can prepare popcorn and snacks for your movie night, whether it’s a romantic date or time spent with the kids.

  • Onboard BBQ

Select the meat you want to BBQ. It's best to do the prep work before you leave for your boating trip. Store the BBQ in your cooler until you are ready to start cooking. The best thing about having BBQ handling is that you can also grill the fishes you’ve caught, if they are edible, and follow the local fishing guidelines of what species can be kept. However, ensure that you don’t throw bones or scraps on the lake or sea to prevent causing pollution on the body of water. Make sure to have your fire hydrant that is not expired and is in working condition.


  • Anchor on a Sand Bar

There are many islands and sand bars where people can anchor their boats and disembark to enjoy time with other boaters. Call your friends with boats, and everyone can anchor in the same area and spend some quality time together while enjoying your time on the water. Make sure to bring plenty to drink and stock the boat with all the outdoor toys that the youngsters can enjoy while you are chilling and listening to music. Remember, it's always best to have two anchors for both bow and stern when you're anchored on a sandbar or beach.

  • Date Night

Having a date on board, your boat is very romantic, especially at sunset. Preparing the boat with decorations, drinks, and the food of your choice will make for a very romantic date. Try planning your onboard date around the time the sun will set that night. If your boat is equipped with a kitchen, you can prepare your meal onboard and have it ready for your date. If you do not have a kitchen on board, you can order from a local restaurant and enjoy the view with your date while eating.

  • Fishing

You can go fish on your own, or you can compete with friends and family members to see who will be able to get the largest fish. All you need is a fishing rod, fish bait, and a bucket or large container to store your fish once it is caught. Make sure to follow the fishing guidelines, licensing, and what fish you are allowed to keep. You might even see some marine life while boating on the water. Always have your lifejackets and safety equipment on board.

  • Swimming

Taking a break from cruising in your boat, it is exhilarating to jump in, swim, and enjoy the water near the boat or off a beach.  Snorkeling is also a great way to escape the heat of the day and enjoy the beauty around you. The views of the marine life found on or near the bottom of the water. Snorkeling is a great way to get some exercise too. When you pack the boat for the big day, don't forget to pack up swimming and snorkeling gear.

  • Tubing and Skiing

If your boat is relatively speedy and has the proper ski tow equipment, you might want to try some tubing or skiing. Use a rope to tie off your floating tube or certified raft etc. Tubing is a blast. Don’t let your boat get too fast, as the float or tube may not handle the speed and may eventually tumble and cause harm to the person riding it. Always keep a watch on your passengers in the tube and always look for other boaters around you. Follow all safety guidelines while tubing or skiing.

  • Games

It's always a good time for a game of cards or a good ole fashioned board game. Grab some friends and family and host a game night onboard your boat. Playing a game while on your boat at sunset will not disappoint. The game you decide on is up to you and your fellow teammates. There’s nothing more fun and relaxing than being on your boat with a beverage and enjoying some friends and family while playing some competitive games.
